Briljanta lösningen för bilder på gamla ex

Publicerad 2019-12-03

Hello! I am ready to shed a little more light on the stories being posted about me and my viral tweet, as many of you (strangers on the internet) and my friends have been asking. For context, I've included screenshots of my full tweet. To my knowledge, articles have been written on Fox News, Mothership, Vice, ScoopWhoop, and Daily Mail. On why I did this: I just happened to be going through my archive of Instagram pictures, and I saw these pictures that I love and asked myself why I needed to keep them hidden. I had archived them when the relationship ended, but as you can see, a lot of time has passed since their posting and looking at the pictures no longer makes me think about painful things, but rather the growth I've had since. I no longer love the people in the pictures, but I really cherish the memories I’ve had and I’m grateful for my experiences, so I didn’t want to delete the photos nor the original caption. Instead, I decided to edit the caption with a short phrase to reflect that things have changed since the taking of the photo. And then I tweeted about it because I thought it would make a funny, lighthearted post about something that can be (and was, for me) very painful! It was done for my own peace of mind, and I didn't intend for the post to go viral or become a movement, but it did. I don't regret anything I've posted because my comments are true and my experiences were real-- I had very, very traumatic experiences in these relationships that took an extremely long time to heal. I know a lot of people think I should delete these pictures and move on, but keeping them doesn't mean I haven't moved on. For me, it means I've acknowledged what has happened and feel strong enough to see these photos on my profile without feeling pain anymore. When a terrible thing ends and we're left with photos, deleting them doesn't translate into being able to forget about the memories. What happened in these relationships are things I will likely never forget, and deleting photos doesn't do justice for me. (continued in comments)
